Supplementary information

L-10 (Interleukin-10) is an important anti-inflammatory cytokine that plays a central role in regulating immune responses. Its primary function is to limit excessive inflammation and protect tissues from immune-mediated damage during infection or immune activation.

IL-10 is produced by several immune cell types, including regulatory T cells (Tregs), macrophages, monocytes, dendritic cells, and B cells. It is typically released during the later stages of an immune response, when the body needs to control or resolve inflammation after the initial immune activation.

IL-10 exerts its effects by binding to the IL-10 receptor (IL-10R) on target cells. This interaction activates intracellular signaling pathways, mainly the JAK–STAT pathway, particularly STAT3, which induces the expression of genes that suppress inflammatory responses. Biologically, IL-10 functions to inhibit the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines, including IL-1β, TNF-α, and IL-6, and reduces antigen presentation by macrophages and dendritic cells.
