Supplementary
information
MCP-1 (Monocyte Chemoattractant Protein-1), also known as
CCL2, is a chemokine that plays a key role in recruiting immune cells to sites
of inflammation.
MCP-1 is produced by several cell types, including
monocytes/macrophages, endothelial cells, fibroblasts, smooth muscle cells, and
epithelial cells, in response to inflammatory stimuli such as IL-1β, TNF-α, and
oxidative stress.
Once released, MCP-1 forms a concentration gradient around
the site of inflammation. MCP-1 binds primarily to the CCR2 receptor on target
cells, particularly monocytes, triggering intracellular signaling that promotes
cell migration (chemotaxis).
