Supplementary
information
IL-1β
(Interleukin-1 beta) is a potent pro-inflammatory cytokine that plays a central
role in the initiation of inflammatory and immune responses.
IL-1β
is mainly produced by monocytes, macrophages, and dendritic cells in response
to infection, tissue damage, or inflammatory stimuli. It is first synthesized
as an inactive precursor (pro-IL-1β). Activation occurs through the
inflammasome complex, particularly the NLRP3 inflammasome, which activates
caspase-1 to cleave pro-IL-1β into the active IL-1β protein.
Active
IL-1β binds to the IL-1 receptor (IL-1R1) on target cells. This interaction
triggers intracellular signaling pathways such as NF-κB and MAPK, which promote
the expression of additional inflammatory mediators.
