Supplementary
information
IL-6
(Interleukin-6) is a cytokine that plays an important role in inflammation and
immune regulation.
IL-6
is released by several cell types, including macrophages, T cells, B cells,
endothelial cells, fibroblasts, adipocytes, and muscle cells. Its production is
typically triggered by pathogen signals, tissue damage, or other
pro-inflammatory cytokines such as IL-1β and TNF-α.
After
being released, IL-6 binds to the IL-6 receptor (IL-6R) and the co-receptor
gp130 on target cells. This activates intracellular pathways, mainly JAK/STAT
signaling, which transmit the inflammatory signal to the cell.
